Eulàlia Grau

born 1946

Eulàlia Grau – a pioneer of feminist art in Spain, studied film and visual arts. She completed her first works using her characteristic photomontage techniques, entitled Ethnographies, in 1973. Taking press and media images and recomposing them in radical contradictions, she commented on the political reality of Franco’s military dictatorship and the culture of mass consumption. She also revealed the manipulation of the media and the advertising market, as well as the patriarchal nature of capitalist society. She is a supporter of women’s liberation, and her works and activities have promoted gender equality.
